Why can’t I open my AVIF file?
AVIF is new, so some apps and older systems don’t support it yet. A PNG opens virtually everywhere, which is why converting helps.
Does the PNG keep transparency?
Yes. If the AVIF has a transparent background, the exported PNG keeps it — PNG fully supports an alpha channel.
Will I lose quality?
No further loss — PNG is lossless, so it preserves exactly what the AVIF decodes to. It can’t add back detail the AVIF’s own compression already discarded.
